Abraham Tajeda
Mr. Tejeda, affectionately called Mr. T, was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, and began playing violin in kindergarten. After moving to Florida at age 12, he discovered the trumpet and joined the band at Sligh Middle School, which set him on a transformative musical path despite early behavioral challenges.
He graduated from George S. Middleton High School as a standout in both band and orchestra, serving as Head Drum Major and earning first chair for viola. His achievements earned him the $10,000 Candy Olson Scholarship and a $35,000 band scholarship to Miles College, where he played mellophone, became Section Leader, tutored students, and graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education and a 3.5 GPA—passing all certification exams on his first attempt.
Mr. T returned to teach at Sligh Middle School for four years, then Memorial Middle School, and is now the Band Director at Middleton High School. He has also performed with the Mighty Marching Lions and in the Jazz Band at the Straz Center.
Known for his philosophy, "Live, Learn, and Grow," Mr. T is dedicated to helping students excel in music and life, inspiring them to realize their full potential and become confident individuals.
